Salary Cap League Frequently Asked Questions
(List will be updated periodically.)
How do you define a rookie for the rookie draft in the SCL every season?
I will be basing my definition of “rookie” or “prospect” off of Keith Law’s standard definition:
1. The rankings are limited to players who still have rookie eligibility; that means they have yet to exceed 130 at-bats or 50 innings pitched in the majors and have not yet spent 45 days on the active roster of a major league club, excluding call-ups during the roster expansion period after Sept. 1.
2. Only players who have signed professional contracts are eligible.
3. I do not consider players with professional experience in Japan or Korea "prospects" for the purposes of this exercise.
How can I extend my player’s contract?
Contracts extensions (from an initial deal) may be for one, two or three additional years. Each team will have the basic fees locked into their salary cap for however long they choose to extend a player. Once the season is complete, the player’s worth will be reassessed. Based on their performance the previous season, their salary the following year will be properly adjusted (please refer to the league constitution for additional information).
What happens if we negotiate salary in a deal where a player is traded and we want to extend that player?
Salary can be negotiated in any deal, but just like in real life, every dollar must be accounted for in a trade. Money cannot disappear in a trade. Let’s place an example in order for the remainder of this to make sense. Player A is traded from Team X to Team Y. Player A’s salary is $30,000. Team X negotiates that they will take on $10,000 of the contract and the remaining $20,000 will be transferred onto Team Y. If Team Y chooses to extend Player A, they are responsible for any additional fees regarding player performance.
What happens if the player already is extended before he is traded?
In this situation, salary must be negotiated between both teams for each season of the player’s contract.
Can we change team names?
This is unnecessary. It takes a lot of time to edit posts on draft picks, rosters, etc. if a team relocates. Please keep your team name the same to keep me sane.
If you have a question that needs to be answered, email me or post it on here. This is a new league and there are going to be new things popping up every day that may have been skipped over initially. I hope you understand that every league needs to build a foundation, and this league is no different.
