Same thing that happens when you cut any player - you receive a cap hit of 50% of their value.
Dunedin drops J.J. Hoover who was $4000
Dunedin adds Chris Colabello $1000
Dunedin recovers $1000 in cap space as a result of this move.

Net gain for Dunedin of $3000 cap space.
Also I need to correct an earlier post. Dunedin gained $2000 by dropping Wandy rather than $4000 and therefore the overall result of the players posted there was -$1000 rather than +$1000 against the cap.
